International Cheese Awards Press Release August 2017: It’s Thank You Time!

Just four weeks ago, the great and good of the dairy world convened in Nantwich, Cheshire for this year’s International Cheese Awards – and what a year it was! As usual, we’re taking the opportunity to say a few thank yous in recognition of the huge efforts that go into making this the biggest and the best cheese show in the world. If you spot anyone I’ve forgotten then please let me know!

So here we go with this year’s roll call of honour – we really couldn’t have done it without you…

  • Everyone who entered this year’s show – we thought we couldn’t beat 2016’s record-breaking 5,000 entries but we smashed last year’s total with an amazing 5,685, up a whopping 13.5%. All the more reason for this year’s winners to celebrate, with Bradbury’s Cheese scooping Supreme Champion for their lovely blue Roquefort Papillon and Arla Food’s Tuxford and Tebbutt picking up Reserve Champion for their blue Stilton.
  • All the retailers who put together such amazing presentations for the Retail Categories and who stuck so beautifully to time on a very busy day!
  • All the producers, traders and suppliers who attended the show – the marquee was bigger than ever this year, and had a real buzz about it thanks to our brilliant exhibitors.
  • Our sponsors, who make the show possible with their generosity and support, including Joseph Heler for sponsoring this year’s Trade Day lunch.
  • The committee, who work so hard all year to put the show together. A special mention to our new Chairman Chris Chisnall, who managed to be everywhere at once and who was very patient in the face of a thousand media queries.
  • The 250 judges, who gamely started tasting those 5,685 entries at 9am and were done in time for lunch – that’s my kind of professionalism.
  • Our brilliant team of stewards, who give so much time and energy in assisting our judges and being generally invaluable.
  • Our celebrity chefs – James Martin, Will Holland, Sean Wilson and Jonathan Harrison – for whipping up some great dishes in our demo kitchen.
  • All the press who attended or wrote about the show – it’s a hard life eating cheese for a living, but someone has to do it!
  • The results team for meeting our announcement deadlines, meaning that once again I had to master the art of live-tweeting the results whilst refusing to put down my pudding spoon.
  • The excellent caterers, who made sure the enormous Trade Day lunch ran smoothly – not easy when there’s a record-breaking 1,366 people sitting down to eat at the same time!
  • Everyone at Nantwich Agricultural Show for putting on a brilliant day as usual, and everyone who helped put up and dismantle our enormous cheese marquee.
  • The International Guilde des Fromagers, for choosing us as a platform for welcoming new members to the guild – including Sean Wilson.
  • And last but not least, everyone who visited the show! Some of you travel such a long way, and we really do appreciate it.

Gearing up for ICA 2018…
