International Cheese Awards Press Release December 2017: End of Year Round-Up

So, another record-breaking year for the biggest and best cheese show in the world draws to a close. ICA2017 saw over 250 judges put an astonishing 5685 entries through their paces, before announcing Bradbury’s Cheese as Supreme Champion for their beautiful blue, Roquefort Papillon. As ever, thousands of visitors flocked to Nantwich to enjoy the show, and we reached unprecedented levels of media interest and coverage.

All of this doesn’t come about by chance: the show has hundreds upon hundreds of unsung heroes, not least our hard-working Cheese Committee. We’ll close 2017 with some of their thoughts on this year’s show.

First up is the Show Secretary (and Cheshire Life Food Hero for 2017!) Adrian Lawrence: “The International Cheese Awards 2017 was a truly spectacular occasion. The ICA showcased the very best cheese from around the world being the biggest and best cheese show ever staged. Not only fantastic cheese and record entries, but a huge trade display covering the whole industry, with record numbers in attendance. A Trade Day Lunch which sat 1,366 persons, at one sitting, from the Dairy and associated industries, surely the largest such gathering ever seen. So, a spectacular Show staged by a Charity organisation for the benefit of the whole industry – producers both large and small, allied trades and retailers all coming together to showcase what is the very best in the Cheese and Dairy Products industry, and this followed by a public day with some 35,000 people coming along. Book the date for 2018 – Trade Day 24th July and Public Wed 25th July 2018 – See you there.”

And what of our two Vice Chairmen? Henry Elsby is looking back “on another amazing year, awarding to the very best cheese and dairy products from around the world.  A huge thank you to all our entrants, judges and volunteers that make Nantwich International Cheese Awards a true spectacle for the industry”. Meanwhile, Ian Luxton added that for him, “the most pleasing aspect of this year’s show was the all-inclusive buzz around the ICA trade day coupled with the impressive scale of the famous lunch, a remarkable industry spectacle. Retailers, Small medium and large cheese makers and dairy processors from all over the globe, as well as suppliers to the industry all actively engaged with each other in a giant pavilion on one special day. A truly impressive display worthy of the largest cheese competition in the world. Please keep Tuesday 24 July 2018 free and we will look forward to seeing you at the International Cheese Awards Nantwich!”

All that’s left to say is a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all of us here at the International Cheese Awards – looking forward to doing it all again next year for ICA 2018!
