March Competition – Win a hamper full of Easter treats courtesy of South Caernarfon Creameries

This weekend is one of the most-anticipated of the year, when many of us enjoy a four-day break from work and the chance to relax with family and friends. This month’s competition salutes those hardworking farmers and cheesemakers who won’t be downing tools like the rest of us, and offers one lucky person the chance to win a lovely selection of cheese, butter and other goodies provided by South Caernarfon Creameries to create the perfect Easter cheeseboard.

South Caernarfon Creameries are Wales’ oldest and largest farmer-owned dairy co-operative, proudly flying the flag for locally-made produce since 1938. The co-operative structure means that the company is 100% owned by farmers, with all the member farmers who supply the milk for the cheese and butter owning a share in the company. Based in beautiful North Wales, the company makes a wide range of cheese, including a choice of Cheddars, from mild and creamy to a vintage number matured on site for up to 18 months, along with traditional territorial cheeses such as Double Gloucester, Red Leicester and Welsh Caerphilly. This impressive range is possible due to the traditional production methods retained at the Creameries, where the cheese is salted by hand on open tables, allowing the flexibility to make a range of cheeses which would not be possible using the automated equipment found in many modern creameries. It’s no wonder they’ve scooped a number of prestigious awards over the years, including a fair few at The International Cheese Awards! The Creameries are perhaps best known for the Dragon brand of cheese and butter, all produced and packed in Wales, and the star of this month’s competition prize.
